new hampshire {part1}

Last week the women-folk in our family made the epic trek home to New Hampshire. It's a little strange to plan a trip home when you technically don't have a home to go to but we were all itching for a good dose of New England. It was a breath of fresh air for us. Exhausting, yes. But in the best way possible.

Let me just say, having flown with the girls a few times, this time was definitely the most fun and the most challenging. Man, once kids learn to walk they just don't like being contained.

The girls really did an awesome job. We ran into a slight meltdown when CG's finger got pinched in Gigi's tray table. Oh, the horror. Screaming child. Nowhere to go. But we survived and everyone thought they were adorable anyways.{Or at least that's what they said.}  Including the flight attendant, who told me she really wants twins someday.
We went to sleep way too late in the pitch dark, woke up a little too early, and we were home.
Not the house we grew up in but second best to that.
We spent the week at Jeri Jo's little farm. She's my mom's best friend and the closest to family I can think of. Closer than most families ever are, actually.
{Rabbit trail #1: We took the car seats from my mom's car because they were easier to move and install and they were great...as booster seats at breakfast. Besides that, whoowhee, were we missing our Diono's. I even picked these ones out as the back-up for her car. They have to be one of the most uncomfortable seats you can get for a child. I could go on and on about car seats because I'm a nerd like that. But I'll keep it short. Get the Diono Radian RXT. Done.}
Before lunch time these kids had already run wild (pants-less...their favorite way to be...because, why not?), learned how to pick carrots, and made friends with a caterpillar (kind of).
I think if we lived up there in the middle of nowhere, I wouldn't even bother convincing them they needed pants until they were like four or school-aged or something. When you have to be at more public events and people really start expecting you to be fully clothed. {Rabbit trail #2: I got their pajamas at the multiples consignment sale and this was the first time they had worn them. I had no idea that CG's glowed in the dark. Scared the crap out of me when I tiptoed back into our room after brushing my teeth. I wonder if she thought it was strange that she was glowing...}

And then we apple-picked and all was right in my world. Apple picking=one of my favorite things ever. It also came on the heels of a recent apple kick at our house and the girls were in heaven just picking and eating apples straight from the tree. We could have stayed in that orchard for hours. They weren't huge fans of the hay ride but when they even saw all those pumpkins. Oh my. {Also, they pronounce pumpkin like bubble and it is hilarious.}

Kirstin and Kiera with CG. Who looks like she belongs to them more than me, yeah?

 You have no idea how happy this child is. When the bag of apples is as big as you, it's a great day.
 Bubbles!

 Ugh, New Hampshire. We just love you.

  1. I'm so glad I married someone from New England. I love visiting that area of the country!

    Also... I just bought a new carseat for my younger daughter (upgrading from the infant bucket seat) and I debated for a LONG time about what carseat to buy - the Diono Radian or a Britax. I ended up with the Britax for the sole reason that I've heard Radians are a pain to install and we do a bit of moving around the car seats. But, if we have a 3rd baby before we're able (financially) to buy a bigger car, we'll have to get Radians for everyone. ;-)
