snow day 2014

In honor of the 60 and 70 degree weather last weekend, I thought it would be a good time to share our snow day pictures. Obviously. And now it's back in the thirties. So there's that.

I wrote last year during our one snowfall about the phenomenon that is a snow storm in the south. This year we were way more prepared in the snow gear department thanks to $15 coats and $3 mittens on Zulily. We still didn't have boots or snow pants though and we perfected the no-snow-boots-snow-boots. Socks, Saran wrap, fleece socks, Saran wrap, tape at the ankles, crocs. (Thank goodness I grabbed those at the consignment sale the week before.) Sure, it was a 20 minute process. But worth every second.

It was so fun to see the girls actually enjoy the snow this year. We went out a few times and had to drag them back in every time. We built a snowman, made some snow angels, ate some snowman noses because why would you not, wandered in and out of neighbors' yards, and wandered across the street and around the house. And walked and wandered and wandered some more. For all the snow activities we did, this was by far their favorite. Snow...a brave new world, the final frontier.

Until next year, snow. We heart you.

'A portrait of my girls once a week, every week, in 2014.'
Charleigh Grace: Our little snow bunny.  Her dad had to drag her in before her toes turned blue and she trekked across the neighbor's yard again. Because for some reason snow means no boundaries to a two-year-old. Wide open spaces.

 Lolly: Our thumb-sucker. Our sleeper. This child wakes up with the best bed head. Whether she's been asleep for hours or just fifteen minutes, it's pretty fantastic.

Drew-bee: Pure joy. All smiles. I turned around and she was two months old. Ready to charm the world.

thursday things

1. A couple weeks ago, I was afraid sick little Logan missed out on any bit of real winter we'd see this year. But, no, we got a real, honest-to-goodness snowstorm that lasted almost a full two days. None of that half-an-inch-that melts-in-an-hour nonsense. We took about a bazillion pictures. So get ready for that goodness.

2. Speaking of a bazillion pictures. My only goal this year is to organize all of our photos in one place, in some semblance of order. I don't even want to think about it because just thinking about thinking about it overwhelms me. So. I'll let you know how that goes.

3. We've been working on our Christmas thank you's around here. Yes. I realize that we're really late on this but I'm a firm believer in written thank you's. And it takes a long time to get these girls to color or paint anything. They're either way too particular or very easily distracted. This doesn't bode well for speedy production. My sister designed these little thank you's. Too cute, yeah?

4. Last weekend I headed to the biannual moms of multiples consignment sale. Now that I'm a consignment veteran it's not nearly as intimidating. {Just kidding. It's still terrifying. Those moms don't play.} Fun fact from this one: I hung out with the doctor I labored with all night during Drew's birth. She was pregnant with boy/girl twins at the same time I was pregnant with the girls. We chatted while we were in line at the beginning and while we sorted our stuff at the end.  At one point, as we both sat on the floor deciding if $1.50 was too much to pay for a pair of pajamas, she apologized for brushing up against my foot and I wanted to say, 'Really...you're going to apologize for invading my personal space now?!'  Ha. I love her.

5. The outfits around here just keep getting better and better.

6. And a picture of Logan because I included a picture of Charleigh. And I just love her concentration. Doll tucked under one arm, train in the other.

7. And one of Drew-bee because I'm an equal opportunity photo sharer.

Happy snow day to all you southerners out there and warm wishes to all you northerners who can't believe we're this excited about it!

'A portrait of my daughters once a week, every week, in 2014.'
Lola: Still under the weather but happy to paint until her heart's content. Her hair's a wreck as she twists it even more when she doesn't feel good. Knots upon knots. Our beautiful mess.

Sweet C: Past the point of wearing anything that could ever be considered a sensible outfit. And if it seems too sensible, one can always add a tutu, Crocs, or a scrub brush to make it truly fashionable.

Baby Drew: Sleeping less during the day but still as sweetly when she does. She started really smiling and cooing this week. Such a precious little voice. Her eyelashes have gone from invisible to dark like her sisters. Her eyebrows from blonde to red. We may get our red head after all.

valentine crafting

What Pinterest wants you to think crafting with toddlers will look like:

What it actually looks like:

We much prefer painting ourselves to painting the paper. And painting with our elbows because why not. Live a little.

thursday things

So I haven't done one of these in forever. But life these days is more often than not random thoughts and lists. So here's a bit of what's been going on here.

1. Please, please make this broccoli for your husband/child/mother/aunt/best friend/boyfriend/sister/neighbor/boss/self. The first time Paul ate it he skeptically looked up and said, 'Why is this broccoli so good?' It just is, pal. The girls eat this stuff up while saying, 'Broki is deeeee ish us.' {Tip: I found that it was way too salty when I made it the first time. I use a quarter of what the recipe calls for.}

2. This little miss slept almost 8 hours last night. Eight.

It probably won't happen again for a long time and I won't mention it again. {Because while I'm grateful she's a good sleeper, I remember when CG was almost a year old and was still getting up every hour and a half to two hours AND not napping during the day. And I also remember how anytime anyone bragged about their good sleeper or dared to complain where I could see such complaint that their four-hour-napper only napped three (oh the travesty!), my zombie self just wanted to slap them. Just punch them. Oh, sleep deprivation.}

3. I started a new blog thing (I would say blog series but that sounds like I'm a legit blogger, and let's be real I only blog so I'll remember at least something about this sweet little life and it won't have all been lost in the fog that is sleep deprivation. See above. Legit I am not.) Anyways, I saw this idea to share weekly portraits of your children on a random Instagram of a blogger I don't follow and can't remember who it was. I was going to try to find out before I published these so I could link back/give credit but, if I waited for myself to do that, it would never happen and these posts would sit in my drafts until the end of time. But I love this idea. And since I'm terrible at blogging regularly it will at least guarantee I do it once a week. If anyone knows who started this little series, let me know. And since there's honestly nothing new under the sun (or on the internet ), there might be a few people who started something like this.

4. When I became a mom I didn't realize I'd be getting such rad help in the kitchen.

5. It's true what they say, mom's don't get sick days. But, if your (also sick) kids are willing to watch Tangled two times in one day, you kind of do. Tangled for the win.
